Hello and welcome

Welcome to my blog. My name is Riley and I have a passion for rap music, among other things. This blog will focus on that, and that's it. No other nonsense, no album links, nothing like that. Just my writing. Hopefully you will enjoy it.. if not, save us both time and don't come back. I will debut my first official "entry" tomorrow morning, August 11th. Welcome, hopefully you will be back again soon for a longer stay. Feel free to leave your shoes on, if they are fresh. If not, please take them off at the door :P

For now, I will post a Facebook entry I wrote yesterday to give you a feel of my writing style. Constructive criticism is much appreciated, if anything I hope this blog will help to improve my writing. I'm not talking about a silly typo or something, that's bound to happen. But if you have any advice and/or comments, feel free to drop them in the comments box. Peace!

About 2-3 years ago, Saigon was one of my favorite rappers of the moment. He had me anticipating his debut album, executive produced by Just Blaze, like nothing else. He appeared on HBO's Entourage for two different seasons, which only furthered his exposure. So my question is... where the hell is his album already? Last year he apparently "quit rap" because he was fed up with all the politics and bullshit (we see you B.I.G., it's no longer Party & Bullshit nowadays unfortunately) in the game.

So he "quits" or whatever, but for some reason, his album is still receiving promotion and buzz from countless press outlets. He is still rapping on songs. In fact, he bodied this recent Statik Selektah song. Yeah you know, that one. The song with Cassidy (who is SURPRISINGLY decent!) and Termanology, who both deliver good verses as well.

"Don't get it fucked up, I ain't in it to entertain
Ain't in it for the fame, ain't in it to get a dame
I ain't what many consider a spitter of flame
What rappers done did to the game, the shit is a shame
Everybody's shit is the same, 99.99% of rapper's lyrics is lame
When I spit, the room temperature change
You would swear I inherited 2pac's soul, both Christopher's brains
Mindstate of La Rock, wittiness of Lamont
Spirit of the sidewalk, grittiness of the block"

And that's only about half of his verse. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing earth-shattering, but I'll be damned if that isn't one well-penned rap verse. Peep the Big Pun, Scott La Rock, and Big L references for all of you heads who might not have caught them. Dope!

So Saigiddy, what's goody? Where's your album when we need it? Perfect timing would be something like.... now. Lil Wayne has 90% of rap consumers convinced he's the greatest rapper alive. Thankfully, Nas managed to debut at #1 and knock Weezle off of his baby seat. Wale is getting a crazy buzz and he hasn't released ONE single to the mainstream radio. If there ever was a perfect time in this fucked up climate of record sales (not just rap even), it's now. Change the game, Saigon. We know you have it in you somewhere. Especially with Just Blaze behind you.
